Five Mekong giant catfish to be released into the rivers

The Wonders of the Mekong Project along with fisheries officials have received five Mekong giant catfish from a local farmer and that they will be released into the river.

The rare fish were raised by a family in Skun village of Choeung Prey district in Kampong Cham province 13 years ago along with some Trey Pra that this family bought them from local fishermen.

The fish length ranged from 147 cm to 168 cm and weighed from 45 to 60 kg, said The Wonder of Mekong’s news release, noting that in fact, there were seven of them but two had died after the family cleaned the fish farm.

Since 2020, the family has been looking to release the giant catfish but didn’t know where to release them or who they should contact for help until June 2021, it said.
