Woman catches $7,500 giant carp from Mekong River

A woman in the southern province of Tra Vinh on Monday, December 30, caught a giant carp of nearly 120kg, 1.2m long in the Tien River.

The fisherwoman – Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hau – saw the big fish trapped in her nets yesterday noon. She then went to a nearby market to find a buyer.

A man offered VND10 million ($500) to release the fish but Hau did not agree.

In the afternoon of the same day, a man from HCM City offered VND1.25 million ($60) per kilo or VND150 million ($7,500) for the fish and paid a VND20 million ($1,000) deposit.
